Zhu Shouqing, head of China Climate Action of World Economic Forum stressed in his speech that clean energy is the long-term solution to energy crisis. Enterprises are the main force in promoting clean energy development and reaching“peak carbon emissions by 2030” and“carbon neutrality”. Enterprises should invest more in renewable energy, improve the efficiency of energy use per unit in order to manage the relationship between emission reduction and development. The climate action team of WEF will focus on promoting the low-carbon transition in sectors that are hard to reduce emissions to accelerate the piloting and dissemination of innovative business models and financial instruments and to expand the supply and use of clean energy.
Zhang Huiyong, division chief of the Secretariat of China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) said in his speech that thelow-carbon energy strategy is anon-regret plan for China, and we must realize that only technological development, especiallydisruptive innovations, can trulylead people to make real progress in a low-carbon and sustainable pathway.
Dou Lirong, executive vice president of Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development (RIPED) said in his speech that international oil companies with a dominant position in the traditional oil and gas field have experienced four stages of
mutual knowledge, mutual defense, consensus and joint efforts. And they are moving towards the carbon neutrality target through five major paths: oil and gas decarbonization, low-carbon layout, model innovation, technology R&D, and acquisition. China’s oil companies shouldactivelyparticipate in global climate governance to achieve further developmentand step up the effort to build a clean, low-carbon, efficient and securesystem for integrated supply of new energy at home and abroad.
Tang Yang, director of Center for Green Energy and Architecture, China Energy Investment Corporation introduced in his speech that a large number of new energy companies arenow contributing to offshorePV development and the technology ofBIPV to transform buildings from energy consumers to energy producers andto transformcities from energy consumers to energy providers as well.
Xiao Gang, vice president of BP (China) Investment Company Limited said in his speech that we need lower carbon energy but also need energy that is secure and affordable. This is what we call energy trilemma. BP aims toprovide the oil and gas the world needs today while at the same time investing to accelerate the energy transition. We plan to invest on emerging technologies for a lower carbon economy and global mega lower-carbon projectsto support energy transition.
Duringthe event, China’s first professional“carbon driver” in Jilinoilfield presented the operation mechanism ofCarbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage(CCUS) to the guests via video link. At the end of the event, the Youth Initiative on Sustainable Low-carbon Energy was jointly launched by youth representatives in a bid to gather youth efforts in ecological conservation and sustainable development.
